First Lieutenant Kenneth Zipovsky
First Lieutenant Ken Zipovsky is an accomplished and decorated member of the Law Enforcement community with 25 years of Police experience; 23 of which were with the Hazleton Police Department. He has worked in virtually every facet of Law Enforcement within HPD to include Patrol, Supervision, K-9, Narcotics, Training, and Criminal Investigations. During his service in the Hazleton Police Department, Ken’s hard work and professionalism has successfully secured convictions in virtually every offense in the law enforcement continuum ranging from a parking violation to 1st Degree Homicide. Ken is currently assigned as the Commander of the Administrative Division, and holds the rank of First Lieutenant. Prior to HPD, Ken proudly served as a Patrolman in the Weatherly Police Department in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. He is a life-long resident of the Hazleton area.
Ken is active in the Law Enforcement community outside of HPD. He is Past President of the Pennsylvania Juvenile Officers Association, The Fraternal Order of Police Power City Lodge #18, and was a member of Attorney General Mike Fisher’s taskforce on school safety. Ken continues to increase knowledge and professionalism within the law enforcement community. He teaches undergraduate college courses in Criminal Justice, and instructs at Lackawanna College’s Police Academy, where he is an Associate Director. At the Academy he imparts basic police knowledge and skills to cadets, and also provides advanced in-service training for the officers who are currently serving the communities of northeast Pennsylvania.
Ken Zipovsky has a Bachelor’s Degree in Government, Law, and National Security from Misericordia University, a Degree in Criminal Justice from Luzerne County Community College, attended Penn State University’s Police Executive Development Training Program, and is a graduate of the Philadelphia Police Department K-9 Academy and the Lackawanna College Police Academy. He has also been the recipient of multiple commendations from the Hazleton Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the Weatherly Police Department.
